Dance Of The Lemons

Are you familiar with the term "dance of the lemons"? School administration leaders are. It comes out this way: A poor teacher in a school is reported to the school athorities and parents are upset. The school cannot dismiss a teacher because of the teachers union. In order to take the heat off of themselves, the school administration transfers the teacher to an inner-city school where parents are not as severe or vigilant about the learning of their kids. Do you think this is possible in your school system?

  • Wow, that sounds very familiar. Where have I heard of such a practice before? Oh wait, I know. Catholic priests. Got a problem with in one parish, just move them to the next one.

  • Exactly Erika, we must constantly be on guard to see that outcomes are proper. The Church took steps to correct (though some said it was because the collections dropped dramaticly) and is now wary of any criticism. It may have been Pope Benedict's push on Bishops to do the right thing that changed the tone and watchfulness.

But what are we to do with the schools?

  • Between poor teachers, pedophile priests and pro-abortion mothers what chance does a child have today?

  • Shouldn't that read 'prochoice mothers' by virtue of being a mother at one point she made a choice.

  • No. Pro-abortion is the correct terminology however "mothers" could have been "persons".
Pro-choice is meaningless unless in context. For example I am pro-choice on many things EXCEPT abortion unless the life of the mother is threatened.

  • Just two quick points....I have never known anyone who was pro-abortion. But if youmjust looking to call names, that's a good ove to use.
...iNo circumstance, no purpose, no law whatsoever can ever make licit an act which is intrinsically illicit, since it is contrary to the law of God which is written in every human heart, knowable by reason itself, and proclaimed by the Church" (Evangelium Vitae 62). If your catholic, your catholic.

  • Sorry, I haven't checked back here in a while. I have no idea what to do about the schools. That is not my area of expertise. I don't think the unions are the whole problem. I think the administration is probably very top heavy so when cuts are made they tend to make them at the lower more child-centered areas. But I also think we are not rigorously training our teachers. We have a School of Education here and I am regularly appalled by the quality of documents that come both from students and faculty there. While there are many exceptions to this that I know of in my own life, I think the discipline attracts the lazy. The students seem to think they only need to know 3rd grade science in order to teach 3rd grade science. And the higher education institutions are perpetuating this. They don't require them to do better as long as they can put a bulletin board together in a manner pleasing to the eye. Wow, this turned into a rant, sorry.

And, Uncle John, I hang out in a pretty liberal crowd and I was raised by very liberal parents (hi, Za) and no one I know is "pro-abortion." We don't think they are great and everyone should have one. We think everyone should have the option if it becomes necessary. We are pro-birth control. That is great and everyone should have it readily available. It could prevent a lot of the abortions.

  • Erika,
Just today I was talking to a mother, Karen, that told me she has put her boy into a Catholic school and it is costing her $2,100for that decision. She became fed up with talking to his teachers and the principal who did not seem to know anything about how to teach a child. They were just passing her boy and giving him good marks. Now he has to study and is getting C's but she knows he is learning something.

  • Some of the new Replica Panerai for 2009 cover the Monaco LS, the Monaco Cal 11 1969 Re-edition, the New Aquaracer 500M, and the Tag Heuer SLR Chronograph. All of these watches are admirable and glassy with avant-garde and awful anatomic avant-garde design.
