Tea Party

Because I had manned a booth at the county fair for the "Fair Tax" movement, I was asked to work setting up for the Tea Party to be held at The Landing in Jacksonville on April 15th. I did sign up to do it and awaited information on what would be needed and at what time. When the information arrived I found that it conflicted with work and I reluctantly told the people in charge I could not help. As it turned out, it was a great success with over 3,000 people showing up. I talked to a person that did go and he said he was surprised at all the signs. He had not made one, did not even think about it. He intends on making one when there will be an additional effort on July Fourth. We understand that next April 15th is already in the planning stage. People that pay taxes and think about where this Country is headed are alarmed. They recognize that the political system is not working the way it should. This Country has developed a political class that seems to do what it wants without regard to what the people want. Green Cove Springs also had a Tea Party and only 30 people showed up. I have recently been watching Glenn Beck who in now on the Fox channel. He talks like no other TV personality. He recently moved from MSNBC, no explanation has been offered as to why he moved. (Maybe more money.) If you do not like Limbaugh's arrogance, Coulter's biting wit, Ingram's whining voice, Hannity's superiority complex, O'Rielly's hostility, then watch Glenn Beck. What a refreshing attitude and exuberance he projects. He is now my favorite.

  • Really? You need an explanation why Beck moved from MSNBC! He obviously failed the liberal kook fringe test and decided to move to a network with a much larger audience.

Glen Beck also has a 3 hour radio talk show. You can find the time and station on glenbeck.com.

BTW: I agree with your one/two word descriptions of the other conservative talk show hosts except I don't find Ingraham to be whinny.

  • Two more things.

You forgot to mention the insults of Levin.

The best tea party sign I saw on the Internet said "If The Government Takes Over Our Health Care Where Will All The Canadians Go?"

  • Many, many of us who pay taxes are very happy with the way our country is going. That is why we elected Obama.

The current government is digging out of a mess made by the previous one. And they are doing it in a transparent way so that we, as tax paying citizens, can see what is happening and express our pleasure or displeasure. Refreshing!

So, protest away! I will trust in Obama to do what needs to be done. Will it be perfect? Probably not, but it can't help but be better than before he took office.

  • I am completely amazed by the complaining about the state of the country by those that fully supported Bush putting us in this position. The national debt did not occur within the last hundred days.

The colonists protested taxation without representation. The current tea parties are in no way of the same genre.

  • Glen Beck and MSNBC? Never happen. His tin foil hat was on display at CNN for years

  • Erika, Gretchen: You are correct, the Bush Admn. had a grow government idiology and that is why some, labeled Republican as I am, did not like it one bit. The larger government gets the less freedom the people have. Freedom is paramount in citizens living private, remunitive and God fearing lives.

The huge deficits that Medicare is building up (increased by Bush) is leaving our children in debt. I am on Medicare but I and others were doing OK without it. Now, I see many people on Medicare getting new knees, why, because they can under the rules of Medicare. Would they have done so if Medicare was not in the picture? For most, probably not.

Obama is bringing us more of the Bush ideology, times ten. There is not enough money in this Country to cover just the interest on the debt that is being piled up.

  • DSVance - I have been looking for the transparency that I continue to hear and read about. SHOW ME THE TRANSPARENCY!!!

True the national debt was not created in the last 100 days. However, at the current rate of spending what will the national debt be at the end of 4 years? That's what the tea parties are about. We don't want to pay for this reckless spending. We tried to tell the last administration that we didn't want government interference in the free markets. There should never have been any bailouts. Most of us don't want to pay the taxes that will be assessed in order to pay for it all. Is it true that Obama supporters are willing and able to pay the debt?

  • Speaking of a lack of transparancy, what about the heath care reform plan? No one knows the details yet. Not even congress.

  • Erika,
Past sins do not justify the current abomination. This year's deficit is estimated to be 4 times greater than the largest deficit in history last year.
