Politics of Personal Destruction

Sexual misconduct claims are raining heavily on Herman Cain, five in just a few days. I am reminded of a football game (this really happened) where a team near the end of the game, and requiring just a little more time, had three of it's players on the ground with an injury. Time is called when an injury if discovered and these players had all determined to do what was necessary to get that extra time. The democrat party , alarmed at how well Cain is doing, has decided to go after him with all guns firing, just as they did with Sarah Palin.

Make no mistake, this is something that is regularly done in the democrat party. It was done to all the claimants against Bill Clinton. The main-stream-media, at that time, gave all the health and comfort to their champion needed to survive accusations against him. The women charging Clinton were vilified through the politics of personal destruction. It was done to Judge Bork and to Justice Thomas when they were nominated to the Supreme Court. They succeeded with Bork and almost succeeded with Anita Hill claiming sexual harassment against Thomas.

We shall see how Cain holds up against the attack dogs, and more importantly, how well the republican voters can ascertain the truth about these allegations.

  • The first two claims were not made against Presidential candidate, Herman Cain. They were made against NRA president, Herman Caine.
If you think, for one minute, the democrats want him out of he race. You are very out of touch. The republican leadership is scared he might be their candidate. The democrats would be charmed to have him.
Myself, I think he should be the conservative candidate, he represents them.

  • Cain is innocent of these allegations because he has not been proven guilty. Monetary settlements (agreements) are NOT proof of guilt. So far every accusation is flawed (no witnesses, no DNA, no proof) only "he said, she said". I agree with Marty for once, I think Cain should be the conservative candidate unless he is proven to be a sexual harasser or other scofflaw.

What concerns me most is that Nancy (who is as conservative or more so then me) thinks Cain is guilty. If women, even conservative women, think Cain is guilty without proof then they may not vote for him if nominated.

  • Marty,

With Cain on the ticket it is estimated that he would pull votes away from the 90% black vote that voted for Obama in the last election. One estimate of the Cain strength to get the black vote is 10% and another 15%. If this is possible some black districts may tip over for a republican win. Unlike you, the democrats are afraid of Cain and that is why he is targeted by them.

  • I have heard that before, from republicans, never heard it from a democrat. I hear a lot about the democratic view from republicans.
    BTW....who did Cain accuse.
What he could pull from the black community would be more than covered by rational republicans. Trust me, there are some.
