The Hoax

For a number of years we have known that there has been no global warming. Many of us did not want to hurt the feelings of those who believed in global warming, after all, what does it hurt to let them believe in something that is not happening. We even let them believe that it was caused by humans and their use of carbon based energy. Of course, we cringed at the idea that more expensive forms of energy should be developed to offset the weaning from oil and coal. We gritted our teeth at the ever increasing amount of taxpayer money that was being spent on alternative energy. We were amazed to learn that the complete education system had geared up to teach that global warming was a scientific fact. Yet, we knew it was not true. We now find that the "tree rings," and "hockey stick" used to prove global warming were statistical studies, used by Phil Jones and others, that could not be peer reviewed because the data would not be released. Further, the scientists involved communicated and conspired with one another to discredit any study that purported to show global warming was not happening. As a society, we now must decide what to do with this information. Most people under thirty years of age believe that humans are destroying the earth. Some wild exaggerations have been made and many people do indeed believe them. How is the truth to be conveyed to those believers? If they are allowed to continue in their erroneous belief, does it hurt anything? True scientists will know the truth, isn't that enough?

  • NO! It is not enough that true scientists know the truth. The gullible (not only those under 30) are eligible to VOTE which is why we have so many morons in our government.

I believe there is global warming AND global cooling and man's influence is infinitesimal. Over the long term (billions of years)the earth is cooling since it began as a molten mass and gradually cooled forming the thin crust on which we reside. However, this cooling does not occur monotonically. It goes through periods of warming and cooling due primarily to solar cycles but the overall trend is COOLING.

BTW: It was revealed today that Phil Jones' original data is not being withheld it has been intentionally destroyed! Given that plus his conspiratorial emails if Jones were in the commercial world he would be prosecuted for fraud.

  • Is Al Gore a terrorist for making so many people afraid of global warming?

I like the arguement that the earth will always be long term cooling. That makes more sense than it will, of itself, overheat; not withstanding, man doing it.

Do you think the UEA scientists will be prosecuted for fraud?

  • Al Gore is a greedy, high polluting hypocrite who is "playing on the fears" of gullible people to abscond with tens of millions of dollars. But no more a terrorist than your average slick televangelist.

I doubt the UEA "scientists" will ever be prosecuted for fraud any more than the "cold fusion" "scientists" got prosecuted in 1998. The best we can expect is that they will be exposed as fakes and lose all credibility.

  • When I wrote this blog I had no idea that the news would create such a large firestorm. It amazes me that the rancor is so intense that there is talk of criminal prosecutions for some scientists, just as John has proposed.

All this does show how our society deeply belives in science. Science is the way to improved lifestyles and any advances are good because that is what has been our experience in the past. Now we find lies, mummery, puffery and skullduggery can infect science. I am shocked, shocked I tell you.

  • I know that Global Warming isn't real and, that people have had very little to do with any climate change the earth may have experienced. I do think we could all do a better job of being conservative. I think it is gross to see one person driving around all the time in a huge SUV all by themselves. I think it is wasteful to leave the water running for no reason. I think it is irresponsible to always throw away the old and get new. I, for one, turn out the lights when I leave a room, opt to go inside rather than through the drive through, and try to up-cycle old things. I don’t do those things because of the Global Warming Hype but, I’m sure it has spawned some good habits in it’s believers. I do those things because I believe we should be conservative with our God given resources. Being better stewards of the environment on a personal level is one good thing to come out of all the Global Warming hoopla. That’s the best I could do with a silver lining.
