"Don't Call My Bluff"
The President used some amazing words in yesterday's meeting with congressional leaders. Referring to his statement "I am not sure I can guarantee Social Security payments if we cannot agree to an increase in the debt limit." he looked at Erik Cantor and said: "Erik don't call my bluff, I am willing to risk my presidency on this."
Does this mean the President will not allow Social Security checks to go out? Did he just play the Social Security card? Did he dare Cantor to stick to his position and he would then show him not to ever anger a president? This is all very perplexing.
Many Tea Party people (not all) feel that the debt limit should not be increased at this time. They are tired of seeing this senario played out from time-to-time and the debt limit increased each time. The whole reson for the Tea Party existance is to halt taxes on the American taxpayer. Many in congress are there because of Tea Party votes. We still have some days to go before August 2 and the exceeding of the debt limit. This is getting to be like the movie "High Noon" with the comming shoot out. Stay tuned.

Are there a lot of voters out there pressuring Obama and the Democrats to raise taxes and increase spending? Where is their (Obama and the Democrats) motivation coming from? I really don't get it. No really, no sarcasm font here. I don't get why they are so adamant about doing those two things.

Tracy,
Yesterday Obama claimed that 80% of Americans want taxes raised. "The American people are sold" Obama claimed. Personally, I believe he is delusional but lets assume for a moment he is correct. Most, if not all, of that 80% want other peoples taxes raised but not their own. Bear in mind that 42% of Americans pay no federal income tax at all so they think they will get more free benefits if the fed raises tax rates.
As for increasing spending, politicians from both parties buy votes with federal funds. It's that simple.
So the answer is the same in both questions, GREED.
ALL tea party members have one thing in common, they are ALL tax payers. They are against tax increases and spending increases regardless of political associations.

John: Just wondering where information in the lastparagraph comes from. To say all is seldom right, but to say ALL is giving emphasis to something I sure you don't KNOW. I'm sure you believe it and want to promulgate you beliefs. But when you use caps you are attempting to take the belief out and replace it with know.
The sacred words of the less chiseled in stone persuasion (I think you call them liberals) are...I think....I believe....accrording to....it seems..etc

Marty,
You raise a valid point. I rarely use the words “all” or “every” but in this case I believe I am justified. The TEA Party movement began in 2009 as a tax revolt when Democrats began discussing possibly repealing the Bush tax cuts. Their mantra was “Taxed Enough Already” so they were called the TEA Party by the lame stream media and the name stuck. I believe that to be taxed enough you must first be taxed (ie. taxpayers). There may be a few exceptions but virtually all genuine TEA Party movement members are taxpayers.
BTW: Liberal congresspersons Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and John Lewis (D-GA) did not use words like ...I think....I believe....according to....it seems..etc. when they labeled the TEA Party movement racist.

My point would be.....all is often a slip, and we are all guilty of using it. But ALL is not a slip, it is intended.
I don't think jackson and Lewis used even the lower case, and I think they are right. Again, not all, but the core.
They may not be 'racist'but they play to them.

Marty,
So you state the tea party people may not be racist but they play to them.
1) Who, specifically, are the racists to whom they are playing?
2) Exactly how are they doing that?
Tracy,
The motivation for Obama and the Democrats to raise taxes comes from Socialism and the desire to "spread the wealth". Socialists believe they are smarter than everybody else, and, even though it has failed everywhere it has been tried, this group of socialists believe this time it will work because they will do it "right". This Country is broke and the problems do not go away, yet, socialists say we just have not spent enough money, they need more.

1: I will avoid an all out flame war by not answering the first.
2: there is a reason you don't see them playing to racist
3: if the man next to you at a rally is comfortable with a racist sign, YOU are a racist
If someone in your conversation zone is comfortable using rasist speech, YOU are a racist.
It's the same with xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny etc. You are what people are comfortable with.
Enough said, I will do my best to never again get sucked into a quixotic quest.

Marty,
So if a man and his family are comfortable attending a church every week and listening to anti American sermons he is anti American. Right?

Really, the man has been in the spotlight for years, in the highest office in the land for two and all you have is the rev, wright. Is Rush that bad at giving you thinking points.
By Anonymous, at 12:38 PM
Marty,
So I was simply trying to test your theory. I guess you are admitting it has no merit.
I would follow Rush but unfortunately his show overlaps my golf game most days. Rather than relying on liberal comedy writers for my "thinking points" I have to resort to the lame stream media.
