A Brokered Convention

Dedicated Conservatives have a new wish, a brokered convention. If there is not a clear winner in all the primaries, the Republican convention will then decide who the nominee will be. At that time it is possible for someone other than the recent runners to be put forward as someone who can win. This leaves the door open for those that did not make it to the end or even someone that was not in the fray.

Possible additional candidates for convention interest: Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, Jeb Bush, Allen West, Bobby Jindal and Mark Rubio.

True Conservatives are saddened about the field at this time. Where did the Tea Party go? These additional candidates would lend new fire in the push to defeat Obama.

  • I, for one, am leery of a brokered convention.

Although the Republican primary process resembles a circular firing squad where the candidates are shooting at each other relentlessly, it serves to vet the weakness and strengths the candidates and makes them better prepared to face the inevitable onslaught of Obama attacks. Most, if not all, of the candidate baggage is being brought out for all to see which forces each candidate to mount a defense for each attack. I do not believe there are any perfect candidates. If a brokered convention ends up nominating a dark horse candidate I fear s/he will face vetting during the general election process where the consequences are severe and s/he may be unprepared.

On a related topic I’ve noticed the lame stream media is salivating over the fact that Obama’s approval rating is increasing and polls show that he would beat any of the current Republican candidates if the election were held today. Republicans are undergoing a bruising primary process where, unlike Obama, their baggage is being made public on a daily basis for all to see. Once the Republican candidate is chosen the focus will be directed at Obama’s dismal record on the economy, mushrooming debt, crony capitalism and degrading foreign relations. I expect the polls will be quite different.

  • I'm so disappointed with our current choices. They've taken all the excitement out of the election for me. I'm sure if I feel that way many others do as well. What a shame.
