Planned Parenthood

I first heard about Planned Parenthood in the 1950's from those with whom I worked. At about the same time I heard the joke: "I believe in planned parenthood, as soon as we find out the the wife is pregnant we start planning." Lately, we are hearing a great deal about this organization and are finding out how militant the organization is. Will it ever be as successful as Russia was in it's all out struggle against the Russian Orthodox Church? In Russia, when a woman had reached the end of her childbearing years, the average Russian woman had had six abortions. It is hard to believe that this is true but that is what is reported as one of many things that brought down the the Soviet regime
The Catholic Church has recently begun to stir about Obama's attempt to get abortions fully paid through the recent health care bill. Priests are giving homilies on the First Amendment much to the satisfaction of the Church attendees. What is truly remarkable is that this has only begun now.

The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, was a racist and desired to eliminate the black race from American cities, supporting abortion to accomplish that goal. She also supported sending blacks to Liberia in order to reduce their impact on American Society.

Recently, supporters of Planned Parenthood have used "women's health" as rationale for their continued existence. They went so far as to say they paid for mammograms for women's health. When looked into it was found to be false. Their main expense was abortions and this is the major thrust of the organization.

The "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" phrase in the Declaration of Independence is an immense stumbling block to proponents of abortion. Life means life and it is not to be destroyed by persons who claim to be masters of their own bodies. I am aware there are many reasons given for actually killing a fetus and it is convenient to look the other way and say it is only a mass of tissue. Yet, it is a human being with it's own DNA, albeit 50% from the mother. It is a life and it's rights should be supported by the State.

This controversy is all very interesting as a major movement of our time and I look forward to seeing how it all comes about.

  • I have been a supported of the Susan G Koman foundation but now that I know they provide funding to Planned Parenthood, my money will be going elsewhere.

  • Going back.....The only Jon Kyl I am aware of is the senator from Arizona, why woulld he be my model?
FYI....Senator Kyl gave an impashioned speach on the senate floor in which he claimed PP spent 95% of its funds on abortions.
When this was clearly shown not to be the case (real number more like 3%) his office issued the this statement....The senator's speach was not meant to be factual accurate.
Was your blog meant to be factualy accurate?

Can you please inlighten me.....The church is anti-abortion, so the rank and file catholics must also be.
Also: The church says "no divorce" and the rank and file catholics say " yea, but I going to do it anyway, and that's all right. I'm still a good catholic.
The church says " no birth control" (artificial) yet the rank and file (I heard 98%, and no one chalenging that number) use it and still say they are good catholics.

How do you, or they rationalise this? And why doesn't the church tell its priests the preach that on Sunday morning?

  • Marty,
When I hear somebody self- proclaim: "I am a good Catholic", it raises my scepticism and distrust. What does somebody gain by saying that? Is it to impress that he is a better person than you are? For me, it smacks as the sin of Pride.

It is possible that another person will, by observing someone with a weekly habit of church going, conclude that the person is a good Catholic. This is done without any understanding whether the person is, or is not, in the state of grace. Of course, merely observing a person cannot determine the condition of his soul, even if he is seen going to Confession every week, because he may not be entirely contrite in the confessional.

The good Catholic uses all the tools supplied by the Church to help him save his soul. It is a very personal thing and while others may have a positive impact it still boils down to individual behavior.

The "Good Catholic" that goes to Curch every Sunday may not be listening, may be distracted, may not understand, may disagree, may not contemplate what he hears and thus slough it all off. This type of Catholic is merely going paces and is in the business of fooling himself and others.

Priest's do indeed talk about the issues of the day. Many times it is, like Jesus did, in parables. One must be listening closely to get the full message. Priest's are not there to constantly nag at the laiety - don't do this, don't do that which often disheartens people. The best himilies are those that can be taken into the heart as true and thus get a person to resolve to do better.

As I have said before, the Catholic Church is full of sinners and the prayer "The Confetior" is said at the begining of the Mass. You remember: "...through my fault, through my fault, through my most grevious fault..." Catholics are not better than others, what they have is a Church that will help them to save their souls should they available themselves of what it has to offer.
